Driving home last night we decided that we should try to record a record while on a road trip. The idea is to rig a van with mics for each of the people in the car. Driver pretty much has to be the singer and the passengers have to be well placed in the car so as not to poke each other with guitars and banjos.
But the end result would be a record (probably along the lines of an EP depending on the length of the trip) that was recorded in a single drive. I'm thinking we start out with my van and trip to LA down the 5. Of course the theme probably has to be the same of the drive.
Oh and someone can ride in the trunk/back-back and do the sound mixing.

This would also be awesome with a short bus. Esp. if we pulled over to the side of the road in the middle of nowhere periodically to be photographed with some combination of band + short bus + abandoned barn/rugged wilderness.
Or a covered wagon...
Good ideas.
To make this happen, let's get a 4-track cassette recorder. Also we should get AC power in the car so we can use a mixer and the condenser mic.
everything sounds better in the car!
I know my mom has an A/C adapter for the car - maybe we could borrow it?
Awesome. I have a 4 (or 6) channel mixer as well. And one bad vocal mike. I might very well invest in at least one quality mike before I quit having money. I'd imagine the more distinct mikes we have for this the better it'll sound.
I wonder if we should see how much instrument mikes cost as well. I have a clip in acoustic guitar mike.
